Spokesman: Blagojevich To Make Statement Before Prison

Rod Blagojevich’s spokesman says the former Illinois governor won’t slip quietly out of Chicago next week on his way to start serving a 14-year prison sentence and plans to make a public statement.
Glenn Selig told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Blagojevich will make the statement in person in Chicago days before he reports to a federal prison March 15. He wouldn’t discuss other details.
Since his December sentencing for corruption, Blagojevich hasn’t granted interviews. His attorneys say he wants to enter prison in a dignified way, without media frenzy.
That’s fueled speculation he could leave Chicago days in advance to escape local media. But Selig says Blagojevich never intended to do that.
Selig adds he hopes reporters give Blagojevich some privacy to bid farewell to his family.
