Camp Nelson in Kentucky will be the topic of this month’s Illinois State Museum Science Series program. Dr. Stephen McBride, who works at the civil war site, will discuss the importance of the camp where African American soldiers were trained. It also served as a refugee center for the wives and children of those soldiers. The lecture is Wednesday at 7 p-m at the state museum. Admission is free.
Dr. Stephen McBride will also give a lecture in west central Illinois Tuesday night. The event is also free and will be held at the Kinderhook Lodge in Barry.
