The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the stabbing and apparent sexual assault of a Springfield teen at a home on the city’s northwest side.
The girls’ mother called 911 just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday. When deputies arrived at the home in the 1100 block of West Calhoun they found the girl with multiple cuts on her arms and chest. She later told authorities she had been assaulted.
Undersheriff Jack Campbell wouldn’t say whether a weapon was recovered, citing the ongoing investigation.
But he says the stab wounds were shallow and that the girl is in stable condition at Saint John’s Hospital.
Campbell says that part of town is not a high-crime area. He says they’re working with the victim to find her attacker.
CAMPBELL: “Yeah, I mean normally it is not a bad neighborhood, so to speak. I mean anytime something like this happens it’s a surprise to our deputis, but there’s not a whole lot of information we have to go on. We’re still trying to talk to the victim and try and get some more details and gather physical evidence and try to develop a suspect.”
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department is asking that anyone with information regarding this incident contact them at (217) 753-6840.
