The Sangamon County State’s Attorney has decided no criminal charges will be filed with regards to leaked District 186 student data. After reviewing the police report, State’s Attorney John Milhiser says no criminal actions took place. The case involved test scores of students currently attending Capitol College Preparatory Academy. Milhiser says his review was limited to whether or not a crime was committed:
MILHISER: “You know, I’m not speaking to whether or not district employees acted properly or improperly, that’s an issue for district 186 … No criminal charges will be filed.”
Milhiser says the student names attached to test scores were only released to one individual who was serving on a committee for the district. That person apparently forwarded the information with the names blacked out. Three District 186 exployees are on leave over the matter. The district did its own internal investigation and is expected to make suggestions to the school board on how to reprimand those employees, if at all, by April 22nd.
