The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation is commemorating its namesake’s birthday with a new Lincoln-themed mobile app.

Officials say it will offer a modern experience to Illinois’ famous resident.

Chris Slaby reports.

The “Abe-App” includes trivia on America’s 16th president, such as his views on slavery while president and what his favorite meal was.

It’s a project the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation has been working on for the last six months.

Phyllis Evans, the foundation’s membership director, says as schools increasingly use smart technology in the classroom, this app is a tool 21st Century students can use to learn about the 19th century.

At the app’s unveiling at the Presidential Library in Springfield, Evans used the app to quiz a Lincoln impersonator.

EVANS: “We’ll see if Mr. Lincoln knows when he was born. Can you choose the correct answer Mr. Lincoln?

“LINCOLN”: “It’s the middle one.”

EVANS: “You can barely hear it, but if you’re closer you can hear that he did get it correct. Thank goodness he knows when he was born. “

The app is available on iPhone and Android products.

While it was just officially debuted on Tuesday, the foundation says it has already been downloaded by people in China, Romania and Russia.
