Slow Food, Urban Agriculture And Local Food Systems

slowSpringfield_snailofaprov-copy-150x150Diners in Central Illinois may already be familiar with Slow Food Springfield’s “Snail Of Approval” adorning the entrances of local restaurants.  While the group is all about sourcing foods locally, the idea itself is far from domestic – it traces its origin to 1980s Italy and one man’s desire to fend off fast food franchising.

Slow Food Springfield’s Ann Hamilton and Deborah Cavanaugh-Grant joined Peter Gray to talk about the organization’s roots as well as the documentary  “Urban Roots”, which chronicles the recent urban farming “boom” in Detroit, Michigan: [.mp3 – 7:03]
