Central Illinois may see some rainfall next week – Guy Sternberg says trees in our area can use every drop.
Sternberg oversees the care of about 2,000 trees at Starhill Forest Arboretum near Petersburg, Ill. He’s concerned that prolonged drought could lead to long-term damage from insects, fungi and other dangers to trees weakened by dry conditions.
The retired landscape architect and certified arborist joined Peter Gray on WUIS’ Illinois Edition to discuss his assessment of the 2012/13 drought and a few common sense things people can do to protect the trees in their yards: [.mp3 – 8:00]
Sternberg will speak on the topic of the drought’s impact on trees Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Lincoln Memorial Garden’s Nature Center. For more information, click here.
