Rolling Stone magazine once wrote that Hedwig and the Angry Inch is “the first rock musical that truly rocks.” The production is coming to Springfield this month at The Legacy Theatre. The Off-Broadway musical focuses on its title character, Hedwig Schmidt – a singer from East Germany who is the victim of a botched sex-change operation. In the states Hedwig plays gigs with the band, ‘The Angry Inch.’ The music is a nod to glam-rock and the stylings of artists like David Bowie, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop.

For the first time Springfield will put on its own gender-bending production of the musical. It opens this weekend and runs through the 26th. Rachel Otwell recently spoke with production members who shared a couple songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch and spoke about the rock-musical:

Here are songs ‘Sugar Daddy’ & ‘The Origin of Love’ sung by Patrick Russell and Mary Young with Nick Murphy on percussion and Emerson James on guitar:

There is limited seating for shows (Jan. 11-12, 17-19, 24-26) & The Legacy Theatre suggests ordering ahead. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
