An official with the union representing employees at the Tamms “supermax” prison says it will close January 4th.
Gov. Pat Quinn said Wednesday that court action has given him the OK to proceed with closing the facility and six others around the state. His office would only say the closures will happen “in the coming weeks.”
Mike Stout is business manager for ISEA Laborers’ Local 2002. He says
administration officials gave him a closure deadline yesterday and he expects his
members to move to new facilities on Jan. 7.The union represents about 300 corrections employees.
Stout says there’s no firm closing date for Dwight prison or the Joliet youth
center. The Murphysboro youth center will be shuttered Jan. 4 but its residents
already moved. (AP)
