Carillon To Toll Friday For School Shooting Victims

carillon2The 7.5 ton “bourdon” – the largest bell of the 67-cast bronze bells of the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon – will toll 26 times this Friday, December 21 at 8:30 remember the lives lost in the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy on last Friday, December 14.
This event will coincide with the day of mourning proclaimed by Connecticut
Governor Dannel Malloy which begins with a moment of silence at 9:30 AM (EST). Malloy also has asked for houses of worship, government buildings and other institutions in his state and beyond to participate by ringing bells to honor each of the lives taken.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” explained Mike
Stratton, executive director of the Springfield Park District. “We in Springfield join in remembering and honoring those lost by the symbolic tolling of our Carillon.”
