A Facebook “Teddy Bear Drive” launched by 20-year-old Alysa White of Taylorville is gaining steam as similar initiatives pop up throughout the country.

White, an elementary education student at Illinois State University, writes on the group’s Facebook feed that she wants the kids who survived the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary shooting “to be comforted” and hopes to ship 650 bears to the school before Christmas.  Tuesday night she reported her donated bear count at 75.White launched the group late Friday, Dec. 14 and by the following Wednesday, 3,789 members from around the country had joined, many pledging to mail bears to White’s collection site in Taylorville:
