Bike Route To Hannibal, MO Traces Lives Of Region’s Great Minds

The town of Hannibal along the Mississippi River is now a destination for bicycle enthusiasts helping promote regional tourism.

Mark Twain’s home town is one of several historical markers along a 260 mile stretch of road that winds its way across the state.

The route takes cyclists along low-traffic roads but also joins a major east-west highway, Missouri Route 36, which is nicknamed “The Way of American Genius”.

The new route, mapped by a Saint Louis bicyclist, builds on the work of the Highway 36 Heritage Alliance, which already offers audio tours for those on four wheels who want to learn about the boyhood homes of Sam Clemens and Walt Disney and other sites along the way. (AP/WUIS)
