An effort is underway in Jacksonville to change how school board members are elected. The board is now elected “at large”, meaning the entire town votes on all the members. Supporters want to get a referendum before voters in the spring to create districts. They say that will ensure every part of the community is represented.

Petition signatures are still being collected. Our Town Books in downtown Jacksonville is a location where those interested can sign. If voters were to approve the change from at large elections, new districts would be drawn and would take effect with elections more than two years away.
