Springfield Area Arts Council Hosts 26th First Night

The line-up for the new years eve event First Night in Springfield was announced today. This year will have local flavor, high-lighting area businesses and performers. Everything from hip hop, to folk, to jazz and string ensembles. Activities for kids kick off at 1 in the afternoon and the event will once again close before the clock strikes midnight, a change that Springfield Area Arts Council director Penny Wollan-Kriel says worked fine last year:

WOLLAN-KRIEL: “I think the fact that we do fireworks early in the evening makes it a much friendlier family situation, and we’ve seen lots of little kids on shoulders of moms and dads so that’s a great switch of timing.”

Fireworks will be earlier in the evening, right after opening ceremonies. The arts council is looking for volunteers to help with the event. They’ll receive free admission. Those interested should call the Springfield Area Arts Council office at 753-3519.
