Enyart Steps Down; Considering Congressional Run

The man who has headed the Illinois National Guard for the past five years is stepping down from that post, having said he’d have to do that to run for an open congressional seat.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Pat Quinn says adjutant general William Enyart submitted his resignation today.
Enyart, a Belleville attorney, planned a news conference later in the day in his hometown to discuss the 12th Congressional District seat that Democrat Jerry Costello is vacating after this term.
Enyart said last week that Democrats in the 12th District approached him about replacing Brad Harriman. Harriman dropped out of the race as the Democratic nominee, citing a worsening but not life-threatening neurological condition.
Enyart hasn’t run for public office before.
