Decatur Celebration organizers announced Tuesday plans for the 27th annual street festival this August 3, 4 and 5. The 3-day outdoor event in Decatur’s business district, themed “The Beat Goes On”, is now in its second year under the leadership of Producer/Director Lori Sturgill.
According to a statement on the Decatur Celebration website, the festival has moved to a different area of the downtown in order to “increase efficiencies and reduce costs”. Event organizers say the festival this year will move completely off of East/West Main Street. Stages and vendors previously located on East/West Main Street have been relocated to areas of the festival that were under-utilized in the past.
“The new footprint keeps all the entertainment easily accessible with no gaps,” writes Lori Sturgill. “It also provides better traffic routing for our logistics team and an overall more efficient use of space.”
The 2012 Decatur Celebration theme hints at the festival’s focus on nostalgia while extending a proverbial fist pump to everyone who has stepped up to buy a wristband and keep Decatur Celebration alive – “The Beat Goes On!” The stage is set for success once again with a well-rounded and highly energized lineup of national, regional, and local music artists as well as new and traditional festival features.
