Implications of JDC Closure for Jacksonville Area

Nearly 200 people with developmental disabilities live at the state-run Jacksonville Developmental Center. Illinois’ psychiatric hospital in Tinley Park is home to 50 short-term care patients – a number that would be larger if it weren’t for staffing shortages.

Governor Pat Quinn wants both closed by fall. That has broad implications for the state employees who staff them, the patients who live there and the state budget. Amanda Vinicky reports.
