County Market Planned For Springfield Medical District

Springfield could be getting another grocery store.  The mayor’s office has announced the parent company of County Market has requested assistance to build on a site at Second and Carpenter Streets.  Mayor Mike Houston issued a statement that says a grocery store in the area is needed and will stimulate further commercial growth.
The store, which would be located within the Springfield Medical District, would be 32-thousand square feet.  Parent company Niemann Foods, based in Quincy, wants the city to provide Tax Increment Financing money to help with the project.
If approved, construction would begin next year and be completed later in 2012.  The company says it would employ 70 full time workers.
