Rail Route Discussion Far From Over

Officials and concerned citizens gathered at the Prairie Capital Convention Center Tuesday to discuss the future of rail in Springfield. Much of the discussion to this point has been whether a hub should be centered along the 3rd or 10th street corridors, with the community split. Rail officials are now throwing out the idea of consolidating freight cars on 10th Street and keeping passenger trains on Third Street.

The Deputy Director of Rail Roads for IDOT says there will likely be another meeting in the fall for public comment.

One Response to Rail Route Discussion Far From Over

  1. Move the thing and all the trains clear out of town like the Railroad Relocation Board was supposed to do years ago, squandered the money and did NOTHING! We don’t need high speed trains mixing with rail crossings and populated areas. Just waiting for the slaughter and the shock of “how could this happen?”
