The Springfield District 186 School Board has settled on a replacement for outgoing Superintendent Dr. Walter Milton. The Board issued a statement today saying it will name Robert Leming as Interim Superintendent next week. Leming is a long time employee of the district. His interim title will last until June as a search for a permanent replacement takes place.
Here is the statement from District 186:
The Board of Education of Springfield School District 186 has reached a consensus as to the Interim Superintendent position that will arise when Dr. Walter Milton, Jr., leaves the District at the end of March and plans to take formal action naming Robert Leming as the Interim Superintendent at its public meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The Board expects this Interim assignment to run from April 1, 2013, to June 30, 2013. Robert “Bob” Leming began working for the District in 1983 and has provided distinguished service to District students in a variety of positions since that time.
At the March 5, 2013, public meeting, the Board also plans to take formal action naming Cynthia Shambley as Interim Director of Human Resources. This assignment will also run from April 1, 2013, to June 30, 2013. Ms. Shambley has a wealth of experience to bring to the position and has worked for the District since 1992. She has served as teacher, guidance dean, assistant principal, and as Project Director with the Grow Your Own Illinois (in coordination with the Illinois State Board of Higher Education). She currently works as the Assistant Director of Human Resources.
The members of the Board of Education extend their gratitude to these two individuals for their willingness to assist the district through this transition period.
