Taylorville Civil War Hero To Be Honored

Major Francis Long

The name of Francis Long is nearly forgotten in his hometown of Taylorville.  But that will change when a memorial is placed on the Christian County courthouse grounds this weekend.   The Civil War Major, who died at the Battle of Jackson, Mississippi, is getting the recognition thanks to the efforts of a few local history buffs, including attorney Thomas Doyle.  He spoke with WUIS’ Sean Crawford about how the idea began…

The monument dedication on the Christian County courthouse lawn is this Sunday, August 12.  All are invited to the event.

One Response to Taylorville Civil War Hero To Be Honored

  1. Rich Covington says:

Most often it’s the generals and politicians who are remembered in the Civil and other wars. It’s interesting to hear about someone who answered the call for troops, who raised a company of men, and who made the ultimate sacrifice for something he believed in.
