A rare combination of troubles is driving up gas prices in the Great Lakes region.
GasBuddy.com petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says several Great Lakes states have seen prices surge about 40 cents per gallon in the last week. That follows a pipeline rupture and shutdown in Wisconsin and equipment problems at refineries in Indiana and Illinois.
Illinois has experienced the biggest price jump, from a statewide average of $3.61 a week ago to $4.05 on Friday. Springfield area prices have increased to the $3.90 range.
DeHaan says the confluence of incidents is unusual and has created fears of a shortage that has spooked the gas market. But he says it typically takes only a week or so to make refinery repairs, and prices should begin to drop during the next few weeks.
Why The Recent Jump In Illinois Gas Prices?

bullshit! gas rises .40 in a week, it’ll be a moth before that .40 is gone
maybe the FBI should investagate this, after all prices raise real fast but come down real slow, but then again your congressmen dont want an investagation because it hurts thier profits since big oil companies are there lobbyists go figure
they can fix it fast but we’ll still be payin more than we can afford after they temp fix this . let congress and the profit mongers live on less than a thousand a month and see if they can budget gas to work and home again the gross ery store and home on that!!!!!!!!
