Blown Tire The Apparent Cause Of Bus Crash

Authorities say a blown tire appears to have caused the crash of a double-decker bus on I-55 in which one passenger was killed and dozens were injured.
State Police Lt. Louis Kink says that the investigation into yesterday’s crash near Litchfield could take weeks, but that there doesn’t appear to have been driver error.
The packed Megabus veered into a highway overpass support pillar about 5 miles north of Litchfield. A University of Missouri graduate student who was sitting above the driver was killed.
Kink says 47 people were taken to hospitals. He didn’t know how many were critically injured but said none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
The bus was headed from Chicago to Kansas City, Mo.
Hospitals in St. Louis that treated some of the more seriously injured survivors of the double-decker Megabus crash are reporting on the patients’ conditions.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis is treating two patients. Hospital spokeswoman Anne Bassett says one is in serious condition and the other is in fair condition.
St. Louis University Hospital is treating a 24-year-old man, who’s in serious condition.
Nearly half of those on the bus that crashed were taken to hospitals and at least five of those were transported by helicopter.
University of Missouri student Aditi Avhad of Mumbai, India, was killed in the crash.
