The City of Springfield could implement mandatory water restrictions this week. The city council will hold a special meeting Tuesday night. The proposal would call for limiting use of home sprinkler systems to 3 days a week. There would also be limits on washing cars, except at commercial car washes. Fines would be levied for those who violate the ordinance.
It’s part of an effort to curb water use at a time when the drought has resulted in Lake Springfield levels dropping. Meanwhile, water use is way up. CWLP last week topped its all time record for production at its water treatment facility.
Jacksonvill is also expected to consider mandatory water restrictions this week. Decatur put them in place last week.
