Decatur Imposes Mandatory Water Conservation

Less than a week after asking local residents to cut water use, city officials in Decatur have decided they won’t give them a choice.
The city yesterday said it will is impose water-use restrictions on homes and most businesses starting tomorrow. Last week, city officials asked residents to voluntarily cut back. The drought that’s drying out the region has lowered the level of Lake Decatur.
Lawns can be watered only a few days a week and washing vehicles is prohibited except at commercial car washes. Other restrictions include limiting restaurants to only serve water to customers on request.
City officials are encouraging local residents to report violations to the police. They also say further restrictions on water use are possible.  (AP)
