Springfield is home to a new farmer’s market on the east side of town.
In the parking lot of the Sangamon County Public Health Department on South Grand, vendors will be setting up shop every Monday morning.
Rachel Otwell attended the first of those markets and brings us this report:
From the news release from the Sangamon County Dept. of Public Health:
”The East Side Farmers’ Market will be located in the SCDPH parking lot at 2833 South Grand Ave East.
Fresh produce will be sold on Mondays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. from July 9 through September 24. WIC Coupons, Link, cash, debit and credit cards will be accepted.”
“In addition to the new Farmers’ Market location, cooking classes will be held at SCDPH on Mondays in August and September. Participants will learn to clean and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables sold at the East Side Farmers’ Market. Participants may sign up for as many as four cooking classes by contacting Mary Rogers, Events Facilitator, St. John’s Hospital: 217-544-6464 ext. 50343 or mary.rogers@st-johns.org.”
